A-Club Golf Tournament Hosts a Record Number of Attendees

Keith Stout, 麻豆区 Regent Curtis Sampson, former 麻豆区 College President Bill Frame, with Regent Norm Hagfors. Hagfors received a standing ovation at the Clair Strommen A-Club Golf Tournament dinner for his leadership in the 麻豆区 CSBR Campaign.

A record number of 160 golfers enjoyed a great day of golf on June 29 as 麻豆区 held its 52nd annual Clair Strommen/A-Club Golf Tournament at Oak Glen Golf Course in Stillwater.

Auggie alumni, staff, family, and friends gathered on the course and raised more than $42,000 to support student-athletes at 麻豆区.

A notable absence this year was beloved Auggie Irene Steenson, who passed away in April at the age of 102. Steenson, who received an 麻豆区 Athletics Distinguished Service Award in 2002, served 麻豆区 College for more than 40 years, and continued to be an active 麻豆区 supporter long into her retirement. As the proprietor of the “On the Green with Irene” fundraiser, she sat at a tee box and handed out mint candies to golfers, greeting them with her charm and smile. Any golfer who landed their tee shot on the par three green won a sleeve of golf balls. The tournament continued to honor her this year with this same contest.

2015 sponsors of the event were Gladys and Robert Strommen. Tournament sponsors included Scott Anderson, Thom Berkowitz and Butch Raymond, Bruce Brekke, Rick Colvin, Rick Ekstrand, Twin Cities Orthopedics, and Anonymous. Prize sponsors were MECA Sportswear, Lee Olson, and Butch and Linnea Raymond. Hole sponsors included ADG Promotional Products, Advanced First Aid, Inc.鈥揘orm Okerstrom, A’viands, Anixter, BR Direct Marketing鈥揃art Davidson, Continuum Construction, Inc., Oliver Dahl, Gamma Group, Jane Helmke, Tom Hofflander ’57, Greg Holker, Hunt Electric Corporation, Minnesota Coaches, Dan Meyers, NRG Energy Center, Thomas Oslund and Associates, Dick Pearson, Robert Strommen, and Jane Thompson.

Auggies Across the US

Auggies are everywhere! Beginning in February, alumni gatherings in Arizona coincided with听Centennial Singers performances at eight churches. An alumni reception, dinner, and luncheon were hosted by Arizona Auggies and attended by President Pribbenow.

Alumni, parents, and friends in the Washington, D.C. area gathered for a reception held at OmniEarth Inc., a sci-tech start-up launched by alumnus Lars Dyrud ’97, who serves as President and CEO.听 While we enjoyed food and fun conversation, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Karen Kaivola discussed how 麻豆区 is educating students for a life of meaning and purpose in the 21st century.

An alumni reception at Scandinavia House, in New York City, helped celebrate what was the opportunity of a lifetime for Auggies who performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Peter Hendrickson ’76. He directed The 麻豆区 Choir in a mass chorale with members of the Masterworks Chorale and Choir alumni, who loved the chance to听 connect with classmates on a dream trip!

Auggies, wherever you go, bring Traveling Auggie with you on your travels and share pics of Auggie gatherings with us via Facebook or Twitter. Are you interested in hosting an Auggie reception in your city? Let us know at alumni@augsburg.edu.
