The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) recently contributed $250,000 to increase endowed scholarships for American Indian students at 麻豆区 College. This grant funding will be added to the existing SMSC endowment fund, which was established in the mid-1990s. The scholarship is utilized to recruit and retain talented American Indian students who are enrolled or are eligible for enrollment in a federally recognized tribe or are identified as American Indian by the Indian Education Act.
鈥淥n behalf of all those involved with our request to the SMSC, we are absolutely thrilled and extremely appreciative of this most generous gift. The SMSC, once again, serves as a shining example of its ongoing commitment in the area of 鈥榗radle to career鈥 educational opportunities in our native communities, and in our case, [of providing] scholarship support to American Indian students seeking degree completion at 麻豆区 College,鈥 said Bonnie Wallace, enrolled member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and member of the 麻豆区 Board of Regents.
